Adrian Parr

Adrian Parr is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her research expertise spans the philosophy of the environment, social and political philosophy, applied ethics, contemporary continental philosophy and the philosophy of culture. Parr is the author of several books including Hijacking Sustainability in which she describes how the goals of an environmental movement came to be co-opted by corporate interests, government, and the military. According to Parr, sustainability has captured our imagination at a time when we are discouraged and demoralized by a failed war and general governmental incompetence; it offers an alternative narrative of the collective good—an idea now compromised and endangered by corporate, military, and government interests.

According to Parr, sustainability’s traction at this time is that it offers an alternative narrative of the collective good—an idea now compromised and endangered by corporate, military, and government interests.
